Model United Nations (MUN) is a nonprofit organization that advances
understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international issues. It positively affects the lives of participants as it prepares them to be better global citizens through quality educational experiences that emphasize collaboration and cooperative resolution of conflict.

For the students that participate on the Governor Morehead School team,
Model United nations offers so much more. First, it allows for our team members to engage, debate and compete with over 500 students from 75 high schools throughout the state and along the East Coast. Second, successfully navigating a conference on a campus the size of UNC-Chapel Hill gives our members the confidence they need to utilize their Orientation and Mobility skills that they have developed as a part of their GMS education. Third, Model UN gives GMS team members the chance to truly experience the collegiate environment in session. This helps guide the decisions they make as they prepare for life after graduation.

The GMS Model UN enters its fifth year as a program and is currently
developing young, promising students into seasoned competitors. Last year was the first time we did not bring a senior dominated team to compete. As a result, we have a young but experienced team compiled of students ranging from grades 7-11. They are eagerly committed to making Governor Morehead School a program to be reckoned with in the years to come. In nurturing the program’s growth, we will seek to participate in a second conference annually, beginning in the Fall of 2021 at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
