Senator Rick Horner (R-District 11: Johnston/Nash County) and Senator Deanna Ballard (R- District 45: Alleghany, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes) yesterday (Tuesday, March 19, 2019) took to the Senate Floor and showered praise on the Governor Morehead School, students, and Director Barbria Bacon, in recognition of the work the school has done over the years in serving visually impaired students from across the state. They both referenced their delightful visit to the school the day before (Monday) in which students engaged the Senators on various topics. Jody and a small group of students led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Lieutenant Governor, Dan Forest, who also sits on NC State Board of Education, welcomed the GMS group sitting in the Senate Gallery.
Senator Horner read a proclamation of support for Governor Morehead School. After the Senate sitting, Jody sang for the Lieutenant Governor. The students return to the General Assembly today (Wednesday, March 20) where a small group will make presentations at the Senate Education Committee meeting. WRAL is scheduled to cover the students’ presentation.
